This 10 days Bhutan tour is one of the most popular trips with the sightseeing combination of Western and Central Bhutan. Besides the sightseeing highlights of western Bhutan, you will visit Trongsa Dzong, the most impressive dzong of Bhutan. There are also other ancient monuments and temples to visit in Bumthang.

Bumthang is also referred as the Switzerland on Bhutan because of its beauty. The valley is considered the Cultural hub of Bhutan. Many Saints and Scholars like Guru Rimpoche and Pema Lingpa have visited this valley in the past.

Sketch Itinerary for 10 Days Bhutan Tour:

Day 01. Arrival at Paro – Thimphu (54 kms, 1 hour drive):

Tamchog Lhakhang.

Meet and greet at the Paro Airport and drive to Thimphu.

On the way,we stop to view Tamchog Monastery built in fifteenth century by Thangthong Gyalpo.

In the afternoon, we visit:

  • National Memorial Chorten built in honor of our 3rdKing, late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Tallest Statue of Sitting Buddha in the world.

In the evening, visit to Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 02. Thimphu sightseeing:

Takin Preserve center

Takin, the national animal of Bhutan.

After breakfast, we visit:

  • General Post office where you can make personalized stamps.
  • Textile Museum.
  • Painting School also called the School of Thirteen Arts and Crafts (Zorig Chusum).

After lunch, we visit:

  • Sangaygang view point.
  • Takin Preserve center.
  • Dupthop nunnery, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.
  • Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu built in the 13th century by Phajo Drugom Shigpo.

In the evening, visit Craft Bazaar and free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Day 03. Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing (76 km, 2 ½ hour drive):

Dochu La pass (3100 m).

After breakfast, drive to Punakha calley.

On the way, we visit to the Dochu La pass with 108 stupas and also view the Higher Himalayas.

  • Botanical Garden at Lampelri.
  • “The Temple of Fertility, Chimi Lhakhang built in 15th century by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The Divine Madman”.

After lunch, we visit:

  • Magnificent Punakha Dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan (160 m) built across Pho Chu river.

Day 04. Punakha – Gangtey (66 km, 3 hrs):

Khamsung Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery.

Hike to Khamsung Yulley Monastery:

In the morning, hike to the beautiful Khamsung Yulley Namgyal Choling Monastery.

We then drive to Gangtey. On the way, visit to:

  • Wangdiphodrang Dzong built in the 17th century. This Dzong was razed by fire in 2012 and is under re-construction.

Note: The Upper part of the valley is called Gangtey and lower part is called Phobjikha.

While in Gangtey, we visit:

  • Gangtey Monastery founded in 1613 by Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson of Pema Lingpa.
  • Crane Information centre.
  • Explore Phobjikha valley, the roosting ground of the Rare Black necked Cranes in winter.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 05: Gangtey – Trongsa – Bumthang (165 kms):

Trongsa Dzong.

After breakfast, we drive to Bumthang. On the way, we visit:

  • Trongsa Dzong built in 1644 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa. The First Two Kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this Dzong.

After Lunch, we visit:

  • Ta Dzong, an ancient watch tower. The chapel inside the Ta Dzong is dedicated to the Trongsa Penlop Jigme Namgyal.

In the evening, drive further to Bumthang.

Day 06. Bumthang Sightseeing (Altitude 2800 m):

Kurjey Lhakhang.

After breakfast, we visit:

  • Kurjey Lhakhang where you can see the body print of Guru Rimpoche on a Rock.
  • Jakar Dzong, which literally means “The Castle of White Bird”, built in 1667.
  • Jambay Lhakhang built by King Srongsen Gampo of Tibet in the year 659 on the same day as Kichu Lhakhang in Paro.

After lunch, we visit:

  • Tamshing Lhakhang or Temple of the good message, established in 1501 by Pema Lingpa.

In the evening, we drive to Tang valley and visit:

  • Membarstho, which literally means, “The Burning Lake”. It was here that the Terton Pema Lingpa discovered the treasures hidden by Guru Rimpoche in the 14th century.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town.

Day 07. Bumthang – Excursion to Ura valley (51 kms.):

After breakfast, drive to the beautiful Ura valley.

  • Explore the valley and visit to the Ura Temple. The Famous Ura festival is held here in the Spring.

After lunch, drive back to Bumthang.

In the evening, we visit:

  • Visit Kencho Sum Lhakhang and Cheese factory.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Day 08: Bumthang – Paro sightseeing (Flight to Paro by Domestic flight):

After breakfast, drive to Badbalathnag airport and fly to Paro.

After lunch, we visit:

  • Ta Dzong built in1656 and renovated in 1968, an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National Museum.
  • Rimpung Dzong which literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Day 09. Paro Sightseeing – Hike to the Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang) Monastery:

After breakfast, we drive to the base of the monastery and hike.

  • Taktsang Monastery hike is for 2 hour walk (One way).
